The passing of RC 15-14, Membership Retention of Early Career Individuals,쳌 during the 2014 APTA House of Delegates facilitated the creation of the Florida Physical Therapy Association's Early Professional Special-Interest Group (SIG). The Early Professional SIG is now 5 years in existence, and those involved have learned many lessons along the way. In this session, the speakers will discuss the implementation of the SIG, including the initial goals, plan for execution, and the early member recruitment methods. Current and former members of the SIG will discuss successes and failures in these areas and the dynamic strategies required to maintain membership engagement. The session also will focus on how these members' involvement has helped them transition from new graduates to early professionals and further into association leadership. The presenters hope to spark interest and inspire other APTA sections and state chapters to engage their early professionals with their own professional development programs.

Learning Objectives: Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

1. Describe objectives and goals for the creation of a group dedicated to the early career physical therapy professional.

2. Discuss strategies used to initiate and maintain engagement of early professionals within the organization.

3. Analyze the personal goals and success targets of the individual early professional and their effects on an early professional group.

4. Discuss the implementation of a framework for early professional members to develop leadership skills and transition to association leadership positions.
