Description:
This session provides learners with a basic understanding of how to incorporate aquatic-based intervention into a treatment program for children. Topics include evaluation to determine candidacy for aquatic therapy, video presentation of methods to address various impairments, how to manage challenges and safety aspects, how to progress intervention with and without use of equipment, the availability of equipment, how to choose and fit equipment, and how to link aquatic-based intervention to functional, land-based outcomes.

Learning Objectives:

1. Understand the physiologic benefits of choosing aquatic-based physical therapy as a primary or adjunct method of intervention.
2. Identify functional limitations best suited for aquatic-based intervention.
3. Learn effective handling and treatment techniques using four major positions.
4. Link the application of aquatic intervention to functional, land-based outcomes.
