Social media has greatly impacted the way information is disseminated and how business is conducted in a variety of fields. Health care, specifically the physical therapy profession, has also been strongly influenced by social media, especially regarding the communication between patients and providers, professional networking, marketing of clinical services, and collaboration between academics. Despite this increased interest among clinicians, students, clinic owners, and even academics, there appears to be a limited understanding of what 'social media' actually entails. It is becoming increasingly important to remain current with best practice recommendations and recent trends in order to obtain the greatest benefit while minimizing any detriments. This presentation will demonstrate how to successfully utilize social media across different settings and career points supported by the most current research and case examples from successful physical therapy social media influencers.

Learning Objectives:

1. Understand the utility of social media for professional networking and development.
2. Obtain an appreciation of different social media strategies relevant to your area of practice.
3. Avoid common errors and pitfalls with social media usage.
4. Apply best practices for social media usage for a physical therapist.
