This session will use CNA's database of physical therapist private practice closed professional liability claims to identify liability patterns and trends. By highlighting events that resulted in financial loss or expenses, the speakers will illustrate the types of situations most likely to have serious adverse outcomes for patients and create liability exposures for physical therapists working in a private practice. Using this information, physical therapist practices can examine their own current policies and procedures in relation to the allegations of malpractice and losses experienced by their peers.
Learning Objectives: Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
1. List the leading allegations made against PTs, PTAs, and PT practices in malpractice lawsuits.
2. List the leading allegations made against PTs, PTAs, and PT practices in licensure/regulatory board complaints.
3. Identify at least 3 risk management recommendations that PTs, PTAs, and PT practices can incorporate into their practice.
